our 2012 Winter Meeting

February 15 – 17, 2012

Shining Brightly by the Sea

Most businesses spend a large amount of time thinking about how to increase their bottom line and give far less attention to how to increase the leadership skills of those people in charge of their bottom line.

A research study by Duke University showed a direct correlation between time spent developing leaders within an organization and higher performance and healthier balance sheets. Business powerhouse Zappos.com, a company whose annual growth rates are the envy of many, has management staff spend 10-20 percent of their time outside the office in team building and leadership training. Isn’t it ironic that we often have to go outside of the walls of our office to truly envision how to work better, lead better and be better?

GACVB offers its members this opportunity annually at the Winter Meeting. In 2012 in the shadow of the St. Simons Lighthouse, we will be Shining Brightly by the Sea. Take this opportunity to reach, stretch, learn and grow. Soak up the leadership sessions, share ideas in the shirtsleeve sessions, discuss best practices with your peers in a relaxed environment. Return to your destination holding your torch high – a tourism beacon of light!

Georgia State Capitol

Georgia State Capitol

January 24, 2012

Preparations for the 2012 Tourism & Hospitality Day at the Capitol are in full swing, so please plan to join us in Atlanta on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. We all know what a difference an investment in travel and tourism can do to improve the quality of life for all Georgia residents. Our industry is the 5th largest employer in Georgia with a total economic impact of $45 billion, supporting more than 391,000 jobs, or 10.4% of all payroll employment in Georgia.

It is more important than ever that we build strong advocacy programs in order to showcase the important role of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry in our statewide economy. We are asking everyone in the industry at large, including representatives from CVBs, attractions, hotels, restaurants, cultural tourism venues, business people, artists and musicians from all over the state to support and participate in this important event.

This year’s event is hosted by the Georgia Department of Economic Development and the Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus. The hosts are expanding the presence of the larger travel, tourism and hospitality community at the event by partnering with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Tourism & Entertainment Committee, the Georgia Hotel and Lodging Association, the Georgia Restaurant Association, the Georgia Arts Network and Georgia Music Partners. Additionally, the event is supported by the Regional Travel Associations that represent Georgia’s nine beautiful and diverse travel regions.

By working together collaboratively on Tourism & Hospitality Day and during the 2012 legislative session we will present a powerful sense of collective identity and allow for all sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry to project a unified front at the Capitol. All sectors of Georgia’s economy benefit from the $45 billion in business sales generated by tourism.

Register for Tourism & Hospitality Day activities here – luncheon tickets are $35; all other events are free for our industry attendees.
