Concurrent LEC Sessions - Tier 1 - Supervising Excellence:

LEC Course 1 - Part 1 - Setting Priorities from the Inside Out
Speaker: Shana Young, The Leadership Institute at Columbus State University
Lecture Hall

Why is it so hard to follow through on time management/priority setting advice? Most programs or books offer tips and advice, but gloss over the practical implementation. They say, “Increase your productivity and fill each moment with activity” or “simplify, simplify, simplify”. We know everyone is different - some like a fast pace; others like a slower one; some people are night owls; others are at their best in the morning; some people love structure; others thrive on spontaneity and flexibility. In this session we will learn about and use a system created by Julie Morgenstern dubbed “The Queen of putting people’s lives in order” by USA Today to develop your big picture view, find out what’s holding you back, design a plan that fits your personality, makes choices about & take ownership in your schedule and your life.

Advanced LEC Course 1 - Part 1 - The "It" Factor: Taking Your Presence to New Heights
Speaker:  - Kat Cannella, The Leadership Institute at Columbus State University
Ballroom 2
You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Your professional presence in the workplace is akin to your personal brand - and impacts how your organization's brand is perceived, too. The stronger and more effectively you manage that brand, the more value you convey to your colleagues, to your company, and to your target audience as a whole. Those who are unable to harness the power of presence will soon be outpaced in their professional lives by their peers. This session will highlight the components of establishing presence, to include dynamic behavior, poise, self-confidence, and non-verbal communication that underscores competency.

Did you know that the average spending per Chinese visitor was $7,200 per person, the highest of all international visitors to the US? Did you know that Chinese travelers are increasingly seeking out off-the-beaten path experiences from summer camp to hunting? Stella Xu and Jassy Ji of the Georgia Department of Economic Development will share an insider’s overview of Chinese travelers and offer recommendations on how your destination can assess its potential and pursue the Chinese travel market.

Taryn started Greenville's first ever National leisure PR initiatives in 2008 and has been responsible for the majority of the worldwide press about Greenville ever since. Advanced LEC Course 2 - Part 1 - Reaching the Peak of Accountability through Compassion
Speaker:  Shana Young, The Leadership Institute at Columbus State University
Ballroom 2
Do you like to show compassion to others and struggle with holding them accountable for their actions and results? Or, are you comfortable holding people accountable and struggle to show compassion?  As a leader, you must be compassionate AND you must hold people accountable.  In this session participants will discover the Compassion Cycle, developed by clinical psychologist and transformative communication expert Dr. Nate Regier.  The Compassion Cycle is model for building empathy, care, and transparency with boundaries, goals and standards.  When you learn to choose your response based on the situation rather than on your personal comfort, you will be skilled at living with the paradox between compassion and accountability.
